Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

US jobless claims over past month hit 15-year low even with Baker Hughes layoffs. Unemployment rate today is at 5.4%

Outside the energy sector, which has lost thousands of jobs so far this year as oilfield companies like Schlumberger , Baker Hughes and Halliburton respond to sharply lower crude oil prices, layoffs have been very minimal.

LOL the jobless figures are low due to the fact that energy prices are low. More US in the labor market out of the oil industry than in it so oil jobless is miniscule. We think its hard because whole areas, cities, townfolks are tied to oil so the pain feels like it is everywhere. Plenty of jobs outside of oil. Maybe time to move along.

So your excuse for the deceptive unemployment numbers is "so what politicians have always been liars" I guess you will only think it's bad when you are affected.

Thanks for the economics lesson but it's been counted that way since before Reagan. But thanks for the timely update!

Lol. It's 5.4% because the unemployment number doesn't count people who have quit looking for a job. Look up the labor participation rate and then tell us how great the economy is now...

Labor participation rate (percentage of working age people who are working) is at an all time low.
