Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

Let's use this forum to more positive ends.

It’s good to have this forum to post news articles, vet rumors, and allow some folks to just vent (and occasionally rant). But, I think we should use this forum for more positive results. Rather than just bemoan the loss of our jobs shouldn’t we be discussing what we can do to change the situation? Someone recently mentioned a law suit – I guess it would be some sort of class action suit and I don’t know anything about bringing one to court. (Are there any attorneys lurking out there? Anyone want to look into this question?) What about phone calls to everyone in the Senate and House of Representatives followed up by an email campaign? What else can you suggest? Maybe we won’t be successful in our struggle against the bosses and big money, but we certainly won’t be successful if we don’t make any effort. It bothers me that there are people in Fossil IT who haven’t visited this site. Are we such sheep that we are docilely led to the slaughter? I don’t think so, I just think people need to be informed and motivated to change the situation.

Agree with the overall position of whomever started this chain.

While it may not do much good, I've already written my Congressman as IT & Cust Care jobs are right where manufacturing was 30 years ago and in time there will be no more of these jobs around if things stay as they are today. Forgetting about quality or "the right thing", the cost discrepancy is just too great. That, combined with the never ending impact of increased stock prices for those who sit in the boardroom makes this approach much too appealing.

H1B visa quotas are in serious need of review and curtailment, otherwise the person that "Moved on" just might find themselves in the very same position down the road. Corporate America for the most part really don't care about the American worker, they care about the Wall Street Investor, and because of that they will continue to outsource things whenever they think it will help the bottom line even to the of alienating the purchasing public. That is until the public shows their disapproval and then the "bring it back in-house" will begin when people tire of trying to understand tech support or call centers for help or ordering. Fossil really needs to wake up and research the smell of the roses as they are about to turn into sour apples much more further reaching than the Fossil IT department.

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Best of luck with that.

I guess I didn’t express myself clearly: I don’t care about Fossil or their decision to outsource IT. I do care about the Federal government’s refusal to enforce existing H-1B visa program regulations. This lack of oversight and enforcement is what allows employers to displace American workers with foreign “guest workers.” THAT’s what we should work to change.

I don't figure it's gonna do much good. For all the ranting and raving it was Fossil's choice to make and they made it. I moved on, I have another job now and I won't ever buy anything Fossil makes through their brand or any they license. I won't recommend them to others as a product or career path. They're harming themselves. They don't need me to waste my energy helping them down the road to oblivion.
