Pay off your mortgage. Max out your 401k contribution. Be financially independent as soon as you can. The best freedom is the freedom to walk away from the treadmill to spend time with your loved ones and to do what you please.
Nothing wrong with a good work ethic. It will serve you well regardless of what happens. Do stop worrying about whether other people care because there is no benefit. Just keep doing what you believe to be right and that gives you satisfaction and don't give in to the feelings of animosity. It will just drag down your health. Don't let them win.
I try everyday to care, to try hard and stay till the end and come in early, take only 30 minuet lunches so I can finish my work and take on more tasks trying to make an impact and accomplish the goal I originally set myself out to do, which was to fix the department I transferred into. I have almost accomplished this goal only to be told that they will just hand over the keys Of the house I fixed and rebuilt to a 3rd party and they keep hanging over my head that the processes I engage in will change and that is nothing but an allusion as to my eventual outsourcing. I see managers coming and going letting their friends walk around doing nothing coming to work every other day coming at 10 leaving at 3 but I still keep grinding day in and day out with no encouragement, nothing. Used to back when I got my first job I learned that you try hard and try harder, lately I feel like what the point. That's not me that's never been me but now I fear I am becoming that guy. Got to work harder got to try harder come in earlier work longer. My will is stronger than theirs and they know it. I feel like they are sitting on me suffocating me. almost like a siege. But I can and will last longer than them. The only caviat is that in the end they will just lay me off and all that hard work will go to nothing and eventually fail.
And it May not last much longer. :(
