Online faculty has been threatened with coaching on Friday

Grading - IMPORTANT - NEED TO READ

Good Morning Faculty,

I have a concern within the classroom as we approach Week 9.

Please see below:

Grading MUST be done by Wednesday 11:59PM MST of each week. When I pull the report this Thursday – I should see no discrepancies.

If your name is on the report with a grading violation on Thursday you will get a phone call from me come Friday for coaching on how to get your grading in on time each week.

I am here to assist if needed.

Please contact me with any questions/concerns.

Make it a GREAT day!

Best,

Jody

@025: You're absolutely correct. I'm EUO adjunct faculty and any threats or coaching I get from my PL or PD goes in one ear and out the other (and I suspect I'm not the only adjunct who thinks this way). Why? Because I'm an adjunct with a full-time job in the actual field I teach that covers my family's living expenses and bills. My EUO pay is "play money" to help pay for Xmas and vacations. So I don't stress about emails that encourage me to sign my own name on my discussion posts (any idiot can clearly read who posts what in Ecollege- hell, instructor post headers are a different color!) or to give students feedback on auto-graded quizzes. I'll grade my students assignments before the weekly deadline, provide relevant field insights in the discussion posts I make, perform the required student outreach and reply to student emails/messages because these factors are what's expected of a college instructor. The rest of the nonsense EUO admin create on top of these in their "faculty expectations" encyclopedia I could care less about because it's just busy work for the sake of busy work, and unlike a full-time instructor my family's livelihood isn't tied to Everest. I'm also not blind to EUO/Zenith being the Titanic after it's hit the iceburg, so I'm not going to kill myself with extra busy work to make a sinking ship not float.

See what happens when you let the real faculty go. You are stuck with adjuncts who have a real job and dont care about threats or coaching.

The OP is talking about the Crooks do not know how to "lead". Of course you must turn in your grades on time.

There is nothing wrong with expecting faculty to grade work in a timely manner. If an instructor is taking Zenith's money, that instructor has agreed to play by Zenith's rules. If the instructor does not want to play by Zenith's rules, that instructor should resign immediately, and if the instructor does not resign, Zenith has every right to terminate that instructor. That's how the real world works, isn't it?

That's not threatening you. I'm not saying that CCi (because deep down that's still what Zenith is) won't resort to threatening faculty to get what it wants. However, that email is simply advising you to do the job you've agreed to or face disciplinary action. That's completely reasonable for any employer. CCi/Zenith may resort to shady practices in some cases, but that email is not one of them. Do your job, slacker!
