WOW! Is the Federal Trade Commission even paying attention or is the FTC getting all the money from Staples that Staples screwed (and are screwing) from their employees? Millions maybe? Staples buyout of Office Max (which includes Office Depot) not a monopoly? It seems clear to most any one who can read that if the FTC approves this, STAPLES WILL HAVE THE MONOPOLY regarding office supplies. And Staples has been working hard and planning away at this for probably more than two years, shutting down the Staples delivery of products and working on contracting it out for what reason........oh yea, money. I mean, after all, since they will have the MONOPOLY, who cares about customer service right? Desk top delivery, forget about it. They will contract delivery out and save millions in salary, OT and benefits! Who cares it customers do not get their product when promised, they will have no choice to take their business elsewhere because the only choice will be STAPLES. Who are customers going to complain to? No one.
All while Staples is putting it to the loyal and hardworking employees who have been a huge part in Staples success. Offering drivers one week of severance pay for every year they have been with the company. But oh yea, capped at 10 years so those most loyal loose out, We are talking about people with this company for 16 or even 19 years getting 9 weeks severance pay. And is that weekly pay based on their usual weekly pay with all the back breaking OT that has been ruthlessly expected? No. Just whatever 40 hrs is at their hourly rate. And Staples is going to pay it out weekly so the drivers can not even get unemployment to bridge the gap until they get a new job. So, for the first 9 weeks of the "layoff" they will get about 65% to 70 % what they were living on before. That's about it....
I wonder if Ronald Sargent, Staples CEO, Christin Komola, Staples Chief Financial Officer or Joseph Doody, Staples Vice Chariman are feeling it like the men and women who have literally done all the back breaking lifting to make it work to date. I think everyone knows that answer. Check out the smiling mugs online. They look pretty happy.
Now I know where they came of up with their slogan. Screw the employees and the customers and line our pockets even more! THAT WAS EASY!
