Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Severance Guidelines?!?

The Mid-Continent BU of the U.S. lower 48 seems to have laid people off based upon the VP's personal agenda and/or age & salary basis. Did other areas do the same, or was this a personal decision by a "leader"who refuses to take any personal responsibility for his years of multiple failures?

I am trying to decide whether to transfer work groups or leave the company, and want to know if all of the decent mentors were laid off!

It will be pretty scary in 2019 when they look up and realize that they don't have any new projects lined up to come on line. They think they can downspace the Eagle Ford forever and make their growth targets. That bird will come home to roost and it won't be pretty. I sure hope they get some sense and start up the growth projects again. I think exploration is over in CP unless some company comes in and takes over.

Transfers are on hold so no options to transfer to another work group. Ride the roller coaster at ConocoPhillips or ride the roller coaster at another oil & gas company. The geographical location of the job is important. Houston is a huge job market with jobs. Bartlesville is a small job market without jobs. Under no circumstances move to a location without an associated large job market.

The high dividend (the news of the high dividend) is to prop up the stock price prior to the merger / acquisition activities in the works. The 100% exploration and production bet is a bad bet.

New mantra for COP....Feed the dividend beast by laying off the employees. Who cares about organic growth generating earnings anymore!

Easy answer if you are still at COP: wear your bifocals. Short-term profits = policy. This means URs. If you do anything else then probably you are (or have been) toast.
