Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Bouncing paychecks...

Hello Faculty,

As you may or may not be aware Corinthian College filed bankruptcy on Monday. Due to the filing, any checks (including payroll) that were cut and not cashed prior to 5/4/2015 are no longer valid and will not be honored by your bank. On Tuesday, Corinthian attended a hearing with the bankruptcy court and the court approved payment of any payroll discrepancies and payroll checks that had been cut and not cashed.

Because of the issues that payroll had last week with getting adjunct pay processed, I understand that many of you may not have even received your check by the 5/4/2015 date. I know this process has been lengthy, but we have been assured that your final pay check is coming. Unfortunately, they have not yet provided a date that these checks will be cut. My understanding is that any employee who is due pay will be receiving a check directly from the bankruptcy trustee.

Our Heald email is scheduled to be disconnected this weekend, so after Friday I will no longer have access to my Heald email account. Should I receive any updates on the status of the final checks prior to Friday, I will be sure to send the information to you all.

If you need to follow up on the status of your check after Friday, May 8th you can contact the payroll department directly by emailing timeandlabor@cci.edu. When emailing them please be sure to provide your name, division that you worked for (Heald College), employee ID number and your current mailing address.

My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

A different take: Has anyone found a rational explanation for our AG refusal to let Heald be sold to a non profit organization? Talk about a win/win, force CCI out of business and save the school, the students and jobs.

Instead:

Ten of thousands of students thrown out

Millions in loans going unpaid

Thousands out of a job, joining the EDD lines

Millions of $$ in lost taxes for cities

Where is the upside for the State Gov? Even my Demos friends are scratching their heads.

And to top it off -- charged a fee for the bad check

And you guys have the balls to criticize teenagers who went to your fine institutions... but didn't foresee problems cashing checks from a strapped company somehow going bankrupt after milking uncle sam's teat for billions?

My check came on Friday and I used my bank's iPhone app to deposit the check immediately. So far, so good. No bad news from my bank about the check.

Hello,

My final check has also bounced. I tried to contact someone at timeandlabor@cci.edu as mentioned in a previous post. However, it has an autoresponder and I'm not sure anyone is monitoring that email address. Does anyone have any other contact info for the bankruptcy trustee or for this "bounced payroll" issue?

Thanks..............

Same happened to me. I was also charged a 10.00 return check fee by my bank. I'm assuming no chance I will see that 10.00 again. Any updates would be appreiciated. Nobody told me to run as fast as I can to cash my check. That would have been nice.

I went to BOA and just cashed the check. I told them I did not have an account. I had to pay 6 bucks to do it...but at least I got the cash.

I received my check on Friday.

I deposited into my BofA account on Saturday morning.

Monday the check bounced and they took the cash back out of my account.
