The opportunity to advance, grow, and develop in one's career is probably the single biggest factor in employee satisfaction and retention. I have been in my role at L-3 CSW in Salt Lake now for over 5 years, and nothing (literally, nothing!) about my job has changed. I still report to the same idiot in the same department in the same group in the same division. The only thing that has changed are the amount of skillful, thoughtful, educated people I work around. Most of those people have left the company. I still work with the same lazy peers, for the same lazy boss, doing the same mind-numbing work. This is an utter failure of leadership. CSW is run by dispassionate, insolvent, lame-brained engineers with graduate degrees from third-rate colleges or for-profit schools. They know nothing about organizational development or goal-realization. Their only goal is to surf the internet and collect a paycheck. People! This needs to change! I, for one, am making a change. I'm looking for new employment at one of the many outside employers who actually give a crap. Good luck

At CSE, a glass ceiling would be a blessing ... a quaint, sweet blessing (you can be here girl, but you must be under the Men and paid less). CSE does not want women working for them at all; even when their products suffer due to their purge in talent. And those last couple promotions of the last of the females (well deserved, long overdue, probably still under-payed) do not make up for multitudes of females killed off or hostile-environmented out.
Indeed. The IDFC (I don't f----- care) principle is right there with the WTF principle. I show up to work, and just start shaking my head.... what idiots.
i would add that i don't give a f*** principle is strongly dominant now. We all just wait around for something bad to happen - and this coming from someone that has a great paying, completely unrewarding job...I love what I do, I just get no satisfaction from it anymore. I would venture to guess that there is a lot of management, top down "mentoring" going on though...these sleuths think they can manipulate the herd and the only thing there is to offer is a feed trough. I thought things would change, I am pretty much resolute in the thought that this is the new norm though.
So right on, man. So right on...
My experience was exactly the same. Eventually I change jobs within the company, just to stay in the same 2nd spot for another 4 years until the management caused RIF forced me to make a radical change.
A remarkably brief yet poignant comment from GF
Here, here! Time to escape the CSW prison...
Yeah, CSW has a glass ceiling. Unless you're the family member of an executive, a horny U-2 pilot, a U of Phoenix grad (master's or bachelor's is fine), a complete and total douchebag, or a shady old man with a love for acronyms, chances are you won't be getting promoted anytime soon. The door won't hit you. There is no door. It was torn down on the way out.... :)
Don't let it hit you on the way out!
