I didn't work at Fossil, but have followed the stories of friends who have worked there. What makes this particularly heartbreaking is that many Fossil workers could have easily gotten higher paying jobs at other companies, yet they were loyal to Fossil because of the loyalty they felt Fossil had shown towards them. It was truly a different culture than any other place I have heard about. The camaraderie among the team members was remarkably free of the personality conflicts often encountered in the workplace. That was a real achievement on Fossil's part. Now to see the IT department dismantled with so little regard for Fossil's values, basically handed over to benefit a foreign company (and a foreign country by extension) using a loophole in immigration law that borders on illegality -- it's just hard to imagine, let along swallow.
Some people may accept their layoffs with stoic disappointment, yet the Fossil workers have been more vocal about it. I think that says a lot about who really cared about Fossil. It's a shame that such care has no currency.
