Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron layoff unemployment pay.

I know as long as you are laid off that you are supposed to be able to file for unemployment. Curious to know if this will be under Louisiana or under the state you live in? I remember back in the day you would get $220 a week, or will it be based off what you were getting paid while employed? Curious to know so I can plan my finances if I am laid off.

California is $450/week, after my mortgage and hoa dues, there is nothing left. COBRA is very expensive. And I'm in my 50's. Not very easy to find a new job at my age. Life is just grand.

Into month 7 of no work and watching all the neighbors vehicles staying in their garages all day. Most of the guys laid off here are not even looking. All the big companies cuts have finally started to trickle down to the small machine shops and welding shops and pipe supply yards. "FOR SALE BY OWNER" signs going up in the neighborhood homes. Only jobs hiring are Walmarts and food service industries. Times be achangin....looking more like 1985 all over again and maybe even worse. Rumor has it this might be a 10yr lull. Hail hail rock and roll..the oilfield has busted once again...but then we all knew it would happen eventually didn't we? (posted by a casualty of the 1985 bust)

Unemployment pay will always be based on your residence of record with the company. In Texas, the max is $465 per week ($1980/month) and almost anyone at Chevron should get that because of the higher than average pay we get. The state pays this benefit for up to 6 months. Only the Federal gov't can extend the benefit, but that's not likely as national unemployment is down to around 5.4% lows (so they say the sheeple). Even though Chevron pats a one-time severance, they will not protest your unemployment filing with your State. This is part of the contract you have with Chevron when you sign-off on your waiver of rights to sue them. Good luck to you.

You can get unemployment in CA which is about $430 a week or threeabouts, even if you are also getting severance. The thing is, you don't really want to be on Unemployment. As soon as you find out that your @ss is on the line, you should be trying to get a new JOB ASAP because you want to be negotiating your salary over there from a position of being on the Chevron Payroll. Ideally, you get a package from Chevron, and get a new company to hire you, pay you a premium for leaving Chevron, extend the start date out on the new company a bit, then take "Vacation" on your final Chevron days. Timing doesn't always work that way. But you really don't want to be on unemployment.

Not sure of unenployment pay but I'd start cutting back your spending now and building up at least a six month savings plan. Great resources of info are:
