Thread regarding Follett layoffs

This is interesting

A list of the H1B visas that Collect has sponsored. http://h1bdata.info/beta/index.php?em=Follett&job=&city=&year=All.The H1B Sponsor must inform US workers of the intent to hire a foreign worker in 2011 by providing notice of the filing of the LCA to the bargaining representative if there is one, or, if there is no bargaining representative, by posting notice of filing in two conspicuous locations at the employer's establishments, or by providing electronic notice (see below). The notice must be provided on or within the 30-day period before the date that the labor condition application is submitted to DOL. The notice must:

Indicate that H1B workers are sought

Identify the number of H1B employees the employer plans to hire

State the occupational classification of the H1B employees

State the wages offered

State the period of employment

State the locations at which the H1B employees will work

State that the LCAs are available for public inspection at the employer's U.S. principal place of business or at the worksite

The notice must include the following statement: "Complaints alleging misrepresentation of material facts in the labor condition application and/or failure to comply with the terms of the labor condition application may be filed with any office of the Wage and Hour Division of the United States Department of Labor."

Retalon was never meant for CM, but a case of trying to milk a GM product and save some cash. Worked for GM, but by the time it works for CM, many enhancements will need to be made.

ORPOS is dead dead dead. That is an enormous waste of money, maybe they can reuse all those tablets for some other frivolous project. All tablets except ASU, because the contract there states mobile POS.

Follett is absolutely disgusting and this is directly tied to SS the CIO. His goal is always the cheapest provider and look what it has accomplished. Retalon, ORPOS, eCommerce and the hits just keep on coming.

Did anyone see the notice they are supposed to post?

Follett's pay structure in general is not appealing when provided as an option to the truly qualified. Spent millions to prove we're 'competitive' all you want, the proof is in the difficulty attracting fresh talent.

I disagree. Unless the work they need done is so specialized only a few scientists across the world can do the work AND they're willing to relocate to Illinois for a job, this company is simply looking for a cheaper labor pool. If they work they want done requires an engineer that can demand a follett salary plus 25%, they ought to pay the going rate, or they need to drop the qualifications to meet the salary (talented ITT Tech grads, CC grads, etc). As far as the store manager position, you can't seriously believe that this is a question of economics. The have a candidate they want who is a foreign national. He/she may already be a Follett employee, but in that position. Giving a job to the foreign worker is plain wrong. Follett makes money on public facilities run by tax dollars. There certain are other candidates for that job, in particular. That is simply gross.

And maybe if our salary/benefits were better we could attract more engineers.

My experience is that we are having trouble finding/hiring engineers who meet our standards, so instead we outsource to engineers who don't meet our standards. We'd be a lot better off hiring new grads and training them than deal with these jokers.

Actually. No. We can't find QUALIFIED engineers in our area for the open positions. This could mean: A) Qualified engineers aren't looking for jobs, B) Qualified engineers in our area don't want to work for us at the set price point. It has nothing to do with a "broken" organization. It's economics. Supply and demand. The majority of engineers out there aren't qualified for the responsibilities we require of the roles we need to fill.

This is a disgusting list. Follett can't find engineers coming out of Northern Illinois, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa? They have to go over seas to find engineers? Who is making these decisions? If it's the same people who have made decisions these past 5 years, perhaps they out to be replaced. Look, too, at the last job listed is for a store manager. The position is in El Paso. Follett can't find a decent store manager for $50K/year in all of Texas!? This organization is sooooo broken!
