Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Intel unseats Qualcomm

I said this years ago when Intel finally started to make it obvious they wanted to get into mobile: it's only a matter of time before Intel unseats Qualcomm. The beginning is here with Qualcomm wobbling, and Intel steadying. They lost their lead to AMD for a while, and then with a renewed focus and secret engineering, they came back with a vengeance and never lost it again. And now that they're really serious about mobile, and Android's properly supporting x86, and they're getting their chips in devices and proving them, it's only a matter of time before they get the Atom to run toe to toe, and then outclass, the top-end ARM processors. And since Intel's used to spending money to make money, they'll subsidize plenty more devices (like they surely did with the Zenfone 2) to make it happen. I think it'll be a maximum of three years before we see either a flagship, or a Nexus, running an Atom processor.

The funny thing is that there are idiots inside of Intel that would torpedo any move to purchase QCT because these idiots still think that Intel can organically grow a metro-area network division. Now it may happen in 1000 years if all the other companies go bankrupt, but that's probably the only way it would happen. Intel is a fab company and they need super-profitable things to fabricate (the 486 chip cost them $25 to make and sold for $400, it was more profitable to print than $1.00 bills.) Wireless chips just aren't nearly as profitable as what Intel wants. If Intel were going to settle for Qualcomm's margins, they would still be making DRAM (I bet you didn't realize that once upon a time Intel was one of the world's greatest DRAM makers, did you?)

Reports point to INTC buying the QCT division after a QC split. INTC mobile wireless division to become a Super Sweatshop.

Intel is damn near dead from all the bleeding over the last 4 years. Not even a competitor against a wounded Qualcomm at this point.

If you did not see massive layoffs coming, how would you know Intel could not unseat QC? Remember when thousands of layoffs was mentioned here weeks ago, people were called crazy.

Intel will replace QC modem in iPhone 7. Then, Samsung will use its own modem.
