Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

You wonder why this company is crumbling? Executive Committee AiNYC given HUGE bonus to stay with company...what happened to everyone else?

First rounds of '60-day notices' have begun in the Big Apple. Secretaries get the word they are due to be let go. Meanwhile, in other bs news, the EC has been offered a rather hefty bonus to stay with the company till their campus shuts down. Does any of this make sense? EC in NYC is already overpaid as it is...minimal: $120k per year in NYC. Chew on that for a while. And you wonder why certain campuses failed. Psheesh

I got a 60 day notice. I wondered why 69 days and not immediate departure like the ADAs?

I agree that cost of living (COLA) is very high in NYC. Still, giving anyone a raise while laying off hard working people who may be the sole means of support for themselves or their families is, at the very least, tone deaf. If even one job could be saved for the price of those bonuses, that is one fewer person harmed. (and yep, they can find other jobs, but when a large number of people with a similar skill are laid off in a given geographic area, getting a new job is easier said than done - two good friends of mine were laid off last Oct. and are still looking in the Pittsburgh area)

120k per year in NYC is comparable to 50k anywhere else.

Excuse me, but its not easy living in NYC for only 120k. Do you know how much I have to pay for private baby sitter, illegal maid, and do you know how much bagels coast these days! You people are so ungrateful to the job creators.
