layoff means when the work comes back, an employee is called back to work. You will never be called back to work. This is it. Period. Please don't sit and wish for Uncle Watson to save your career.

I think most people could grip a mass firing with all the over hiring Chevron did and the market bust. But wait, it's who they fire and who they keep. That's what will drive you crazy. You have all the letters behind your name,you worked hard, you played by the rules, you treated people with respect,YOU GOT RESULTS. The guy sitting next to you periodically comes to work has no experience or education for the job he was just put there. He yells and screams and does nothing. You get fired he gets promoted in the reorg. It will be jaw dropping ignorant.
