We have taken a 33% pay cut and have had lay-offs. My group laid off: 1 black male, 1 white religious male, and 1 Hispanic male. Now they have hired 2 while male good ole boys...filthy language, talking about drinking, spouting negatively about their wives, and always openly planning ways for WFT to pay for their drinking, fishing, and hunting. One is worthless (laid off during first round of Halliburton layoffs this year), but my manager knows his dad. So, bring him in with a big paycheck. Big accounts are being handed to people just coming into the company instead of spreading around to the already existing group. Morale is low, but all you can do is hold on until this storm passes. Then job hunt like a fiend.

Good people come in all shapes and colors. Race should never be an issue. Affirmative action should not have ever been implemented if we are wanting equality. The oilfield is a business that proves the point that a worker willing to work can be successful regardless of race, age, education level, and gender. The ones that make management have all paid their dues and earned it. When someone brings race to the forefront it shows their ignorance and lack of self esteem. The only racism i see in our industry is obama not caring because the oilfield is presominately white..
I worked alongside a white guy good worker although he cursed all through the day and to honest I judged him as being low on the social and moral ladder, On a drive home he suddenly stopped got out and helped an old lady who fell on the ice made sure she was okay offered her a ride home she refused but he stayed there until her daughter came to collect her thing was the lady was of black race. It suddenly hit me in all the times I worked beside him not once did he bring race in to his conversations I did ask him if he was racist in anyway he looked at me and said son we all eat sleep shit and die I'm too busy doing the first 3 and avoiding the last one to even worry or give a shit about the color of someone's skin! Wise words or honesty you decide?
Really?!?!? We are going to bring race into this!!! Maybe the three contributed nothing to daily operations and the two that came can bring in new customers and work. It is survival of the fittest and you must make yourself an asset to the company where they will choose others to let go than choosing you. Quit making race an issue. Thats whats wrong with america these days, people think they are owed something for nothing. And fyi i am black.
I think it is not right to lay off minorities and replace them with white males that aren't as good as the people let go. The problem is that the manager is attempting to make the entire team just like him and remove diversity even at the cost of people without appropriate knowledge. That's the problem! No race is better than another, but the message being sent by management doesn't coincide with that view.
So 2 white males in you're mind are somehow worse than 1 black male, 1 white religious male, and 1 Hispanic male is this because their not religious or have the same morale values in you're mind as the 1 black male, 1 white religious male, and 1 Hispanic male interesting and worrying theory?
