Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Employee vs Contractor which will be first to go?

I wanted to ask will there be any difference during layoffs between Employees vs Contractors?

or will be decisions be purely made performance based?

honestly, this is freakin hilarious that you are trying to justify whose cheaper for work. Employees think that they are invincible and gods gift to the industry and they should be spared, bashing whoever is next in line...Great spirit values guys....well you can sit up there on your high false horse but when you lose your job, I am going to be busting my gut laughing...this below comment is true... we are ALL replaceable, so stop trying to wrap your head around it and justify whose cheaper/better then who, because they don't care who you are.

When we talk about lay offs. Who are the victims really? Contractors employees? I would say both.

When a contractor gets laid off they are left with nothing.

You can whine all you want about pesky contractors taking your jobs as if they were dirty immigrants. The fact is, is that your all disposable. When the shit hits the fan none of you are even thought about after. You are all disposable, non important and replaceable.

Some of you may have had the idea that you are more than this and compared to contractors, maybe you think you're a little more entitled.

Ultimately the comments I see here don't suprise me in the least. Blame gets pushed everywhere apart from where it counts most.

There's a beast, and all of you feed it. Mark my words because I've seen it first hand. Laughter and applause is shared amongst the elite of this industry. This blog is a good outlet for said laughter. The pathetic whims of the unappreciated and the forgotten make me hard... To see everyone bicker at each other is whilst ignoring the problem.... Priceless

The contractors released to date were associated with projects and not day-to-day functions. The projects (and the funding) ceased to exists and so did the contractors associated with the projects.

I wasn't aware we still had contractors. Bville laid them off earlier this year.

Just look at all the temporary yellow badges still around after the first layoff and you will get you answer. Many of us were qualified and would have taken any job to get through a few more months but it didn't happen then and won't happen now.

I'm proof that Contractors will be let go first! If there is an employee that needs to be placed someplace they will bump the contractor even if the employee isn't qualified to be in that position! Where the oil price is now, it's a crime to the stockholders to be holding on to so many employees in the oil companies! It's time for a suitcase parade!

Contractors are cheaper. No pension, no VCIP, no insurance, no benefits. ??

Are you kidding me!? Contractor's hourly rates are twice (if not more) compared to employees hourly rate (even if we include all the benefits)

If employee costs X amount contractor costs 2X easily!

day-to-day contractors will be the last out the door?

how is that?

The decisions are not performance based. The performance reviews are a farce (rhetorical). The supervisors were told to dole out x % of low ratings to line people up for layoffs. The contractors are released without notice and via the contracting company. The contractors provide the greater flexibility and oddly enough the day-to-day contractors will be the last out the door.
