I too was once let go from CHK. It's a culture shock for damn sure. Everyone treats you differently it looks at you with pity because you're not in the cool crowd anymore. People I talked to daily don't even know my name now. It was difficult trying to pivot skills specific to oil and gas into a career not in oil and gas but I figured another wave of layoffs was going to be always on the horizon. So I took a paycut to get my foot in the door and it hurt a lot for a long time but I make way more money now two years later than I would have stayed at CHK with a 6% raise those two years.
It gets better. I promise.
