Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Everyone should have seen this coming

Does every store need a ft marketing person? NO! Does any store need an ISE? No! Educating tms should be the tls job.HES? A demo person that does a 2 hour demo is there for 8 hours? If the store doesn't need an accountant it sure

Don't need these positions! Some of these positions were created during the glory days and for the most part have been a waste of time and money! I am sorry for people losing third jobs but theses positions are not needed but the people in these positions should have known there time was running low. Same thing with having 6 buyers on a grocery team or even back up buyers on perishable teams. WFM put them self in this hole now they are trying to get out of it. They know in 3 months this will all blow over.

Maybe not 3 marketing tm's, but 1 person doing all that work is a struggle. Cut the fat off the front end? The concierge doesn't need 3 people to do personal shops and catering orders nor 2 atl's. The front end likes to come up with all kinds of crazy 'responsibility positions' to keep people from doing what they are paid to do- run a register. Maybe the astl's can do their job and eliminate the need for walks- it ain't cheap to fly people in to make sure the store looks 'just so'. Store meetings? Waste of time. Bulletin boards all over the store have told us the same shit we hear at the meetings.

Editing to say that should have said "sales signs came from marketing" : ) Even marketing makes typos!

Obviously you never helped out on an internal or external marketing event. Who do you think pulled in people to the store when the store did NO advertising? Who do you think pushed those nasty gluten-free crackers to customers? Who do you think put on that wine sampling event for your team and got people to pay for it? And who do you think sold all those damn turkeys and handed them out so the meat department could make huge gain sharing while markting TMs didn't make any?? Attitudes like this are part of the reasonwhy WFM is sinking. Sure maybe every store doesn't need one and metros aren't a hideous idea. But understand that the budgets for marketing are so minuscule (about $1500/mo) that the things the marketers could pull off with so little dollars was amazing. God forbid you didn't get your store anniversary cake or t-shirt because you came runnnng to marketing. TM Appreciation week almost always was run by the MKTL. And those fancy displays you demanded and those sales signs came from majestic. So please don't say we didn't do anything. Some probably didn't do a lot just like some Seafood or Meat TLs didn't do anything. But the vast majority were busting their butts to help your team make $ while the marketing teams got ridiculed.

If these positions are so obviously unnecessary, then management is irresponsible for having created them through their own demands and expectations.

The marketing positions were pretty frickin important back 6 months ago when walter robb was out singing about building community, seeing as how they are the ones who do that. He's changed his tune recently now it's all about the benjamins. Sellout. Also, why don't you kick us when we're down. Jesus.

The demo specialist may be a hard worker, but does he generate his salary in sales? So what 40k in sales? No chance! he should find a home in a more meaningful position. The positions are being cut not the individual

In our store they're making beer, wine, and spirits one specialist. Bakery specialist is gone and marketing team is going from three pepole to one. I feel like there are so other positions that should have been cut first. Customer service doesn't need two atls. Hell, they should have gotten rid of specialty atl before beer specialist!

The demo specialist I work with is one of the hardest working individuals I've ever seen. He knew the point of the business was the bottom line, and he managed to build many amazing vendor relationships and increase sales of many items in the store that were on sale or just overstock.

Labor is being dropped but will still be higher than anyother company out there

It's not just these positions being cut. Good team members are losing their jobs and labor is getting dropped to levels that are unsustainable for the holidays.

Truth. We used to make so much money that we could waste some on unnecessary positions. Not anymore.

You're obviously someone who doesn't interact with Marketing team members very often. Just because you don't personally see the work these positions do doesn't mean they don't work their asses off.
