Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is this all the sunsetters want?

Re-post from another company undergoing layoffs ++++ After 35 years of strong, productive, respectful employment . . . It has all come down to this. If they had actually wanted a good chunk of employees to retire early "for the good of the company," all they had to do was offer the enhanced severance and ask. Retirement with dignity is all that any of us wanted. Not only has that not happened, we have been treated like criminals and lumped in with laid-off poor performers. I have no respect for supervision, management, and total lack of leadership in now.

Boo hoo. I'm not getting paid extra money to walk out the door when it's probably something I'm going to do anyway. Chevron you're so mean!

I declined to uproot my family and move to God-awful Houston, so I don't even get a severance package. To add insult to injury, they replaced with with someone several PSG levels higher and divided my work among two people. So much for efficiency. I'll try not to let the door hit me on the way out...

Chevron's fat layor of middle-management has all the company's internal resources at their disposal to survive ROM after ROM. But this time panic has set in. They have cut the core workers that they "managed" and are soon to be exposed for their lack of understanding of the areas they are responsible for.

All valid points. It is really a question of numbers. Personnel are valued as assets not people so why reward people for past work and years? Why reward a person who is likely to quit in the next year or two anyway - this way they essentially work 1 year for free or 2 years at half price vs. receiving 1 year severance. No my friends this is no accident it is part of the ROM formula.

Seems you are right, Anon172175. But, there is value in loyalty. It is something that cannot be bought. Chevron will suffer more than it realizes, because loyalty from its employees is now lost.

Yeah, Chevron and I have an arrangement. I come to work and twice a month they put $ into checking account. It they quit doing that I'll likely quit coming. The days of a job with the same company for an entire career don't happen so much these days. It was good while it lasted. Gotta move on now.

I totally agree with Anonymous172058. That's why nobody should give their heart and soul to Chevron (or any other corporation). Go ahead and pretend you do, but always remember the corporation doesn't really value you, they use you instead. If you do give your heart and soul to Chevron, you will be in for disappointment one day. It happened to me and many others.

Oh get ahold of yourselves. All companies want to keep who they want and get rid of who they don't. Ya'll act like CVX is the big bad boogie man because they do that too with older folks nearing retirement. Times is rough, folks. Put your big boy and girl pants on. Shell, XOM, COP, etc. etc. ain't no better with all this. The grass is always greener...... til you get there. ....................

I totally agree ROM is a total disruption and a bad way of handing the situation. I also know that it is very important to keep the positions with the right skill set. What I have a hard time with is all these comments on how everyone thinks they are the perfect employee. Who is going to admit to sloppy deliverables, missed deadlines, bad recommendations as solutions, the complaining without offering a solution, etc.? What happened to finding efficiencies and synergies? I have seen far too much territoriality and snipping at people who come up with a better solution. I have also seen far too many people taking credit for another's labor. I am so tired of the leave things alone. " If it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude at various levels has bought us to this point. .

That is right. Management wants to choose who goes and who stays. Offering a voluntery severance would have resulted in some if the seasoned employees opting for retirement. Now, these tenured employees will remain in board for two more years before being put in a position to quit it elect retirement on their own without severance. Chevron is the abuser in all if this. Screw them. Don't give your heart and soul to this company.

They are probably worried too many of the older folks would leave if they give that option. Some of them are likely key contributors they want to keep around for a couple more years.
