My son is off to college next year and I was hoping he would go into engineering or something similar, just like dad. I have been having these conversations with him for a while now and he just doesn't know. When I suggest an engineering major, he says too much math, or too hard. Well, what about finance or economist, again too much math. I finally asked him what exactly he wanted to do, and he said "I want something really easy degree-wise and I don't want to have to really work when I get out, but I want to get paid well". I said there is only one degree that fits that - a Human Resources degree, so I guess it is a perfect fit for him.

Be patient...you were young and stupid once too.
Tell him to study what he is interested in. If he is interested in something that makes no money - like philosophy or music, then tell him to get a second degree in business or another well paying field as a backup.
Says the guy with a degree in church ministry and computer science.
HR still takes a level of initiative. I think he needs to aim for Walmart greeter or cashier at McD's.
Another suggestion is be a safety engineer. Ours just gives us weather updates. Tough job......

No wonder well educated legal foreigners are taking over :) They've been raised old school style ... zero spoiling and lot of hard work

What happened to our work ethic in this country. Kids all want it handed to them and not work for anything including chores at home. I helped mom and dad with chores and didn't get an allowance. Kids now think mom dad are their slaves.
