Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

The ones they left behind

So the specialist for my very small dept got the axe, leaving one full-time TM (me) and a few pt-ers. I was informed today that I will now be responsible for doing the order, beginning with the holiday orders, even though I have no experience or training, basically because I am the person who is scheduled when the order has to be placed.

Part of me is indignant and feels like wtf, shouldn't I get compensated for doing someone else's job (who got paid much more than I do?) on top of my own? But the smart part of me knows that the more I'm paid, the sooner I'll be laid off. But really I will probably be fired long before the second round of layoffs for screwing up the ordering. Wtf are those of us who are left behind supposed to do?

Make it very clear that you will not do the order without compensation. Doing an order means being responsible for margin. be prepared to walk and stand up for yourself. Document everything, include regional in your emails. This will just continue, it will not get better.

This scenario is precisely why I took the $ and left. I KNEW they would ask me to "BUY" without paying and I ain't playin' that game. I'll take my ten thousand balls and go home. Bitches

Sorry, more to it than that. You should be concerned and you are right to be hesitant about performing job duties, from a title that paid considerably more. I wouldn't f***ing do it. Talk to your STL so you are at least on record as having expressed concern. Do you not have a TL or ATL? They are supposed to do the buying now.

Sorry to hear that. I am in the same boat with our Bulk Buyer of 4 years leaving. I have no idea what he was doing half the time and how have to buy for that department as well as my sub-department. Reach out for help to anyone in the store that has done the position before and I know there are still good people that work there that care about you and whom you care for.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything like over/under ordering or burning any bridges, because this decision is a corporate move and corporations are only about making money. You won't really hurt the corporation by any acts of social disobedience, but your choice will directly effect your Team Members and customers. Good luck, you'll be alright.

Don't buy unless you're being compensated for it. An order her or there to help out is fine, but not something you should be doing daily without the title or the compensation.

Find a new job, then on your last few orders, don't order anything. At least hurt them where it hurts the most: the wallet.

Reach out to someone you trust, whether in leadership or not for assistance. No one wants to see you fail or lose your position based on a lack of training. Many folks still in stores know how to order and we will always help one another because we are still human.
