Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Fair Practice ? Ethical? Legal? S&T made employee's rank the nominations in order of preference.

S&T used Word documents for employees to fill and and added a Preference column. We were all told to rank the positions in order of our preference, but weren't told that hiring managers who saw the document would observe their position selected # 4 and ask direct manager, 'why did he rank me # 4?' she tells him it's just an order it's not important.. and then DM tells me of the sponsors statement and here I am thinking.. really? Now he's feelings are hurt because I didn't select him as # 1..

It is what it is.. but hindsight is .. How biased does that reflect on his final decision and your chances of success..

Personally, I think S&T, by using a word document instead the web based system like others have (we provided document to mgr, mgr entered nominations and ranking ) and by adding that column, whether they thought it out as to how it would be perceived by job sponsors wasn't considered. It has, even minutely, the possibility of being unfair and discriminatory.. Yes.. this is my opinion based on going through the process..

I'll leave it up for comments, but yea.. like I said.. it is what it is..I'm venting :) and making my thoughts transparent (cvx :) )

175913 your comment makes no sense. You are the one babbling and are probably the "has been" skank that walks around Supply & Trading smiling while you stab people in the back. You're a joke and everyone knows it including your boss.

If you didn't realize that job order matters and that hiring managers want to select people that are enthusiastic and want to be there and have that job listed as #1 then that is your oversight and not the "system's" fault. Also, thinking that anything added to a form doesn't really matter because it won't be looked at is foolish. It all matters and is all looked at. That's the same thing as fresh-out-of-college people thinking that only what you say in an interview matters and that a hiring manager doesn't research you on social media and doesn't ask around about you to others who have interacted with you. Nobody wants to be somebody's last choice. If it were me and I was picking between two equally qualified candidates, I would absolutely pick the one that rated me as #1 compared to the one that rated me as #4.

None of this matters anymore. The decision has been made and we are out the door. Move on! There are lots of other things to do with your life than bitch about the ROM and CVX. CVX was a good ride while it lasted but it's time to go.

You were doomed from the start. None of the ranking is based on facts. I would guess you are more qualified than the job holder.

If you wanted the best chance for having a job, should have selected your current job as #1. Really don't think the DM cares, but might try getting on your knees and taking the big piece of cheese to see if that changes the decision.
