Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Dentist, Chiro, Prescriptions, etc

Might be time to book any appointments that use benefits in the next few weeks. I'm booking the dentist tomorrow just in case and filling up my prescriptions.

You can apply for health insurance ANY day of the year, but only if you have a qualifying event. Losing your job is a qualifying event.

I would suggest going directly to ins companies and skipping the "marketplace". It is a joke in most states and the coverage you get isn't as good.

I found the rates to be better dealing with the ins companies than what was offered thru by the marketplace.

COBRA continues the existing benefits so plan accordingly. Insurance associated with health, prescriptions and dental continue via COBRA. In the US the options are COBRA or the healthcare marketplace. For a single person with 1 prescription and a dental visit scheduled COBRA proved to be the better value. Enrollment opens November 1 for the healthcare marketplace so options to continue via COBRA and reevaluate November 1. Income for 2015 is significant for most involved with the layoffs so the price via the healthcare marketplace will be full price. Unemployment beyond end of year and the price will not be full price.

Good luck, the cop dentist is on about a 2-3 week delay right now. Just tried to book an appointment last week.
