Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Anyone here worked for HP in Scotland?

I worked there as an IT analyst for 4 years and left earlier this year. Several of my work colleagues opted for early retirement, one of them took up voluntary redundancy and I was refused voluntary redundancy so I left on my own accord. I can't confirm but I believe the reason why I was refused redundancy was probably because of my low average salary (I started on entry level) compared to other analysts in the department. A department filled with non-technical clueless people, favoritism and bad practices. Main reason I left was because of the lack of transparency and work coupled with the incoming company split I was concerned that I would get the boot. I'm curious to know if there were any employees in Scotland who shared the same experience.

I spent 2 years in Scotland, from 2004 to 2006 and I can tell you one thing - work was much better (including culture) than what I saw in Santa Clara where I spent 6 years prior. I left due to family reasons in 2009. Tech folks were, in general, OK. I agree 100% on your assessment of the 'business types'. I also saw a bit of nepotism in Scotland, which was absent back in the States. Also, I think that comparatively and all things being equal, the pay in the States was a bit better, not a major difference if you calculate in all the costs of living, etc. Good luck.
