Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Have you seen Doer commercial? (link below)

It's an annoying commercial, unless it's on mute. Are we a company of doers? Or are we a company locked into a culture of analysis paralysis, gridlocked by risk aversion, and plagued by piss-poor execution? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5hc8l_VPdk

Title to the contrary, there is nothing here of any real substance on the quality of the company's campaigns (title "Doers", or "We Agree"). Instead, the green crusading is a clearly misguided waste of time, and the irrationality and venom sprinkled throughout this thread reflects most poorly, not on Chevron, but on the individuals making the various such comments. What is the point of all this? If the company has chemical safety and polluting responsibilities, it clearly should, from an ethical perspective, address them. But nothing in this thread is impacting the likelihood that they do, and so such entries are, like the attempt at armchair corporate restructuring (to direct Chevron toward renewables), again, laughably misguided.

Lupus is no joke. I have known 2 people who have contracted the awful disease. clearly Chevron hasn't given it to "everyone" like YOU say, but if you or a loved one ever contracted it, you would not be writing what you have in your last post. be a DOER like your commercial tells you to and read more about it.

Are you still here trolling this thread and leaving your dribble about Chevron giving Lupus to everyone? Geez, you sure are annoying. I thought you went golfing or something.

Will Chevron continue to give people Lupus "long after everyone has lived out their lives?" Obviously the ones with Lupus will be much shorter.

Chevron is not going away and the extraction of oil and gas will go on long after everyone has lived out their lives.

Great response! Finally an intelligent one. Except Kodak & Polaroid are still in business. Both companies embraced digital technology and made big and brave changes to keep from going completely out of business. Actually, the new Star Wars picture was filmed on Kodak film. Perhaps Chevron should take a page out of their history and find a way to survive after the time of "O&G" goes away... as you say. Finding a way for your company to survive the future is not "random crap". Wouldn't that be a way to avoid a layoff?

This is a layoff board about Chevron. Why are there people here talking about random crap?

Don't they have better things to do, like go to a climate change rally, than to sit and log into a layoff board, on their iPad, using power either from a power plant burning natural gas, or perhaps using solar from their home that was made in China, where coal is the predominant energy input to purify silicon, and heavy fuel oil to transport the shipping containers across the ocean, not to mention the energy it took to mine the rare earths to make the electronics in the iPad, and the energy to power the computers for the designers and engineers back in California.

Chevron do what Chevron does. It's an O&G company. The best things for Chevron to do is to continue to be a O&G company until the time of O&G goes away, which might be soon, I don't know. Investing in renewables is not in the companies interest. Let the real renewable companies do that, like REC, Canadian Solar, Sun Power, Yingli. They are still in growth mode and need investment. We can all sit in our high horses here and talk about climate change (it is happening by the way) but there are billions of poor-soon-to-be-middle-class in India and China and other countries that want the lifestyle we have and need energy to realize that goal....It will take DOERS (groans, haha) to do it. Will it be O&G? Solar? Nuclear? Chevron made a choice, let the market find the winner.

You as a consumer or stockholder should want companies to do what they are good, and use your own money to invest in better places. When the time comes, Chevron will shutter and close its doors, just like Polaroid and Kodak.

OMG... it's not CBS... it is the U.S. CHEMICAL SAFETY AND HAZARD INVESTIGATION BOARD. So when you are at work tomorrow & I am not because I am self employed (playing golf or doing whatever I want) you should read the link I posted.

CBS as a news source is all you need to know. Propaganda peddlers for the left. Keep dreaming you lost soul. And yes, I'll have a very productive day at work tomorrow.

So the CSB findings are false? Read it for yourself: http://www.csb.gov/assets/1/16/Chevron_Final_Investigation_Report_2015-01-28.pdf

Resorting to profanity? That's a sure sign of high intelligence. Have fun at work tomorrow!

Ok global warming denier... what about the 2 posts below? Do you like the fact your company has given people lupus? Lupus makes it so you can't DO ANYTHING. What about the CSB report? Are you denying that? Have a nice day!

Thanks @1Cjua for recognizing me as a true global warming denier. That's exactly what I am. I thought I made that very clear in my post. Global Warming (now aka Climate Change) is a farce... one huge hood-winking lie. Now go suck on a tit.

Here is more that Chevron is DOING:

  1. The CSB identified several contributing causes of the August 6, 2012, incident relating to the

Chevron Richmond Refinery’s safety culture:

a. Decision making that encourages continued operation of a unit despite hazardous leaks.

Examples include another leak incident in the Chevron Richmond Refinery in 2010,

which was allowed to continue in operation, releasing high-temperature, flammable

process fluid in an active unit, as well as continued efforts on August 6, 2012, to perform

on-stream mitigation attempts despite high-temperature hydrocarbon vapor release and

the occurrence of a flash fire;

b. Reluctance among employees to use their Stop Work Authority. Recent safety culture

surveys performed at the refinery indicate that employees had become less willing to use

their Stop Work Authority between 2008 and 2010; and

This is what Chevron is DOING:

Chevron is responsible for widespread health problems in Richmond, California, where one of Chevron's largest refineries is located. Processing 350,000 barrels of oil a day, the Richmond refinery produces oil flares and toxic waste in the Richmond area. As a result, local residents suffer from high rates of lupus, skin rashes, rheumatic fever, liver problems, kidney problems, tumors, cancer, asthma, and eye problems.

Spoken like a true global warming denier. I guess you don't care what kind of planet your children or grandchildren will live in. All about profits huh? Plenty of companies historically have changed what they manufacture to stay profitable and viable in a changing world. But I can tell your just stuck in the past... how old is the Internal Combustion Engine... 100+ years? If you do actually have a conscious, you should read about what responsible oil & gas manufacturers are recommended to do to limit global temperature rise to below 2C.

The "Climate Change" movement is a farce. It's another socialist wealth redistribution scheme, nothing more. The recent accord signed in Paris, France, is only a pledge with no accountability to the countries that signed on. Chevron is an Oil and Gas company. To deviate from that will only weaken us as a company.

Chevron needs to adapt, die or kill the planet. Their choice. "Numerous studies, including the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, say the cost of inaction will cost us all a great deal more than shifting to a decarbonised, climate-friendly way of life."

Chevron began as an Oil and Gas company and will always be one. It never was and never will be a Renewable Energy company. Having a small footprint in renewable energy is only a public relations maneuver to please the "Green" crowd in this country, nothing more.

It doesn't reflect company culture, but I do feel that Chevron has always had the best ads. PR is important too, internally and externally. I will add that this doer one is pretty silly, but other people may like it. A good rule of thumb is that if you see a commercial about company culture, the opposite of what's in the ad is more accurate. i.e. Total's make energy better ad-worst I've seen.
