Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Has anybody signed up for the Chevron medical coverage after getting laid off.

I am single and my contribution is minimal. I am thinking this is a no brainer if you get laid off? Not sure though with the affordable care act. Has anyone done this and if so what advice can you share.

After the Chevron subsidized rate goes away after six months, you should be able to continue on COBRA for twelve additional months where you pay the full rate. I am single and pay $455 per month on this type of Chevron COBRA Coverage. You could also shop around for other coverage after six months but $455 is probably pretty competitive in the market place for a single person carrying a high-deductible policy.

You should be covered at your normal rate for 6 months (Chevron contributes their historic portion). COBRA would kick in then at an increased rate. There are likely more affordable options available after or during the COBRA period. Best to you.
