Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm used to be a dream of almost every electrical engineer

Qualcomm used to be a dream of almost every electrical engineer. It is very, very, very, very sad to see what is happening these days and all this uncertainty is heartbreaking. Wish we all would come out of it and something good happens for everyone Good luck to all of us I I really hope that things improve very soon for all of us :)

Q was never a dream for any EE. They are a relatively new company that has outsourced almost all of the ground breaking manufacturing innovation to Taiwan.

CEO pulls sixty million a year. You never hear the idea that he could have been replaced by an H1B or even a National, "just as good", but much cheaper. Everyone is an interchangeable mouse-pushing cog in the engineering wheel as far as the bean counters are concerned. Hardware design is dead. Too expensive, too risky. Common platforms are all that is seemingly needed with maybe a few bespoke addons for video codecs needed for performance. Every phone, tablet and phablet is basically the same hardware with little differentiation. Software is everything now.

A bump in the road? A great company? Do you really believe they would go through this process with such de-moralizing consequences for the remaining staff if they thought this is just a bump in the road? If they thought there was growth in this new areas in the following 2 years you think they would risk losing the give it all at work culture just to save 2 billion? The future for qcom is much worst than the execs are picturing.

Partly correct. GREED destroyed QC. They got what they deserve by abusing the H1B allowance and deliberately passing up on American Engineers. To top it off, the H1Bs they hired were greedy themselves. Connivers from top to bottom. Be a man and take it up the ass today. Good riddance!

OP, you are copy-pasting posts adding 1-2 lines, seriously? Plagiarism! Dumb and lethargic folks who cannot even write their own thoughts are hired at Q, no wonder this day has come for Qualcomm.....

Not with this management. Kicking butt requires management to be awake not falling asleep on the wheel

MBAs killed this company. Attorneys too. Wall Street too. We should have never gone public, we'd be 100 times better off without the Street

QC is still a great company, we've hit a bump on the road, but overall, we still kick butt big time in the mobile telephony space. We are like yuuuugeee
