Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Left Standing? Open Enrollment & Cobra

If you were left standing and told there was no reason for you to go through open enrollment, THINK again..

Cobra insurance is, will be based on current election, based on your current election, there is a cost difference of cobra based on your election. This was confirmed by an HR rep I spoke with Friday regarding costs.. There is a 2-3 % difference of costs between PPO 1 & 2 to maintain your insurance.. So.. Is Chevron screwing us in not letting us go though open elections and ask the questions and get the best deal? you bet they are :)

I paid $182/month for Cobra when I got laid off from CVX in 2010.

I looked at the cost comparisons this morning @Anonymous190781, and the PPO premium increases amount to an extra $13/month. No need for the fear mongering.

My retiree insurance premiums for PPO #! (too young for Medicare) are going up 24%. But I fully expect the company will drop us totally before too long, s. I won't whine too loud or for too long.

I have ppo #1 and it's going up but not tremendously. Also, if you're left standing and you READ the information you received, you'll see that chevron will continue to pay their portion of the premium for the first six months of cobra (for the medical and vision only I believe, not dental) and that takes a lot of the ouch out of cobra at least for the first six months. I've been laid off of jobs before, between the six weeks you stay on payroll after your last day in the office and chevron paying their portion of the cobra for the first six months, this is by far the most generous severance package I've received. And then there's the educational benefit on top of it too. I'm not happy with the company and their poor decision making, but I'm grateful for the severance package which might keep a roof over my head longer.
