Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

What are the severance package details in Canada?

HR won't answer me yet... it's my future I'm trying to plan (Nov 30 end date I've known since early September) and they just refuse to give any more information than "it's competitive".

Only 2 or 3 weeks??? I heard 4! I hope that's true, 2 weeks is nothing.

packages depend on your position and level, you should be in the order of 2 weeks per year including pension accumulation and vaction. The last one I knew of settled at about 3 weeks per year with all elements.

Get a lawyer and be prepared for negotiations !

Don't forget you will be taxed on it.

How can you possibly be competitive with a severance package? Who are they competing against?

FYI. "Competitive" from what I've heard from folks in my neighborhood from other oil co's is 4 weeks per year if you have some sort of tenure (10 years plus, made your pension choice, etc)

This seems crazy. How can they give you an end date without package details. Did you sign anything? I'd consult with a lawyer.
