Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Start building connections in your local community and freelance!

As an ex-store artist, freelance is amazing.

I started small with connections I already had. Word spread. People saw the other types of work I do and things have just gotten better and busier the more time that goes by. These past few months have been a blur because it seems as if when I'm finishing up a project, I'm being contacted to contract more work.

Not just the design stuff, but chalk artwork, paintings, etc.

I can't even begin to explain how liberating it is to work for yourself and to do what YOU want.

Get your portfolio up to date. Get business cards. Go to markets. Go to art walks and galleries. Mix mingle..whatever it is...I'd have loved to have been more prepared, but I'm caught up with it all and just crusing along down an unknown road. It's...so satisfying. I feel alive again.

Just did my first major company book cover - still an SGA but not expecting to be much longer, so I gotta work on reaching out more.

Good luck to all of you, wherever you go!

Agreed. While wfm offers a steady pay check, it really doesn't offer much else for artists. Are there any more success stories out there from former SGA's?
