Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Shell Severance Pay

Do you know what kind of Severance we will be receiving here in the States? Any changes if compared to 2015? It looks like that capital spending will be low, much lower than people were expecting so you can expect a wave after wave of layoffs and redundancies throughout 2016 - I am just observing this and I have no insider info

Those that I know exiting January 31 are still 3 weeks per year of service.

So this is useful thread. Thanks Bertie. So I am Brit currently overseas, thinking of taking the money and running. So would it be reasonable to assume that I may get 3 weeks salary for every year I have worked? Or does anyone have experience or knowledge to think it would be significantly less?

but can't anything that is published on a website be changed at any time? That's why we don't get hardcopies anymore.

I can't help on the US expat terms but I would make one point. I'm sitting in a team of expats (boo, hiss) from different countries, most being sent back to our respective base countries. Countries such as Netherlands (boo, double hiss) and Malaysia publish VS terms on their local HR websites so staff can calculate how much their package will be. The UK doesn't and neither it appears does the US. Why ? So the terms can be changed at any time. Usually down. They have certainly been changed in the UK and in theory the only time you find out how much (or how little) you are worth is when HR give you the piece of paper with the numbers on. In practise of course, beers are drunk, tales are swapped and eventually you find out from friends of friends. But how are you expected to plan under these circumstances ? For me the moral is that certain countries have strong unions, works councils or whatever you want to call them and they have ensured visibility in the process. In the UK and US we are suffering because we believed that we would be looked after and the company was honourable. Well, the shit has finally hit the Shell fan and now it is behaving just like the other tinpot outfits that we used to look down on.
