Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

People at corporate should get ax-ed before actual manufacturing locations

It makes sense to have a Corporate location to streamline business strategies, but most of these folks do nothing compared to those in manufacturing shops, sales, inventory control, etc. IT at corporate....IT in Eldridge. Sales at corporate......sales in Lockwood. Demand managers at corporate.........Machinists at cypress. These positions are replicated and of little use till the market picks up.

Sarah H you are right. I hope someone saves us and buys this company before it goes beyond saving. We are in a dip pit right now and drowning. It is barely surviving. The numbers don't lie but the ones who manipulate those numbers do. The big top bosses are allowing this company to be ran into the ground. Those same bosses will take their money and run right before this company goes under. So much evil here it's pathetic. We have 20 employees here in this department half of which do absolutely nothing all day. These slugs do take long lunches and get to go home early basically they put in 15 minutes of real work, paid for an 8 hour day. Our work has been cut down by 50% our manager doesn't care at all.

Very interesting that you would keep a bunch of manufacturing jobs and what not when there is no work for them, but eliminate Corp positions. Not everyone at Corp makes big dollars or surfs the net all day. I am a single mother that makes ok money but I work my 8+ hours a week. Why would you keep those jobs that aren't very busy, numbers don't lie, just to get rid of a job discrimination because it is Corp. the bad thing about the low point of the cycle is many loose their jobs the good thing is it's usually the dead weight for one reason or another. In either case there is no reason to pay some to stand around or surf the net, looks like the are turning to tighten things up but I think it's to late and I am hoping that a better organized, top to bottom, buys us and sets us back afloat.Ourcompany is in a lot worse shape than most think and it is at all levels and position descriptions

Lots of NOV corp employees with nothing to do are still employed. In the meantime all other NOV location have been hit with layoffs... The numbers are in the thousands (NOV layoffs)

Very true. Majority of these corporate jobs are redundant and not needed. If those redundant jobs were reduced to a minimum then they wouldn't have all that time on their hands to create drama, take long lunches, surf the net all day, talk about food, babysitting, and whatnot. I'd say if you have 4 of the same positions narrow it down to 1 then you can keep the ones that are needed in manufacturing, warehouse, shops regardless of your departmental budget. Eliminating 3 big corporate salaries means we can keep 6 or 8 machinists, welders, or whatever. If so many non corp employees have been let go how is it that you continue to employ corp employees? We are the ones who keep you corp people employed!
