Requesting to be left standing...

Has many people in other Business Units requested to be left standing and received it even if their job was on the new organizational chart?

181125- I appreciate your thoughtfulness. It is very heartfelt and generous. My husband is contracted on a Chevron job through a third party, and I'm paralyzed with fear. Like many other families, we have school aged children and a mortgage. Almost all of my husband's work experience is oil field related. With these market conditions, it's a very scary time. I am trying to have faith and rely on my Heavenly Father to meet our provisions, while continually repenting of my fearfulness. I pray for everyone who has been and will be affected.

I do understand you requested it, but were you granted it. I too think my job will be on the organizational chart... I have been around for quite a few decades. I look forward to the day I can retire... also I would like to know I provided an opportunity for some younger person to keep their job and keep the ability to support their family, like I was given.

I did and my job is still going to be around. I don't know of anyone who did not, but I'm not in a department that has highly specialized employees either. I would not think a company would want to keep you if you didn't want to be there. I'd be curious to hear from someone who did EOI and didn't get it, what the reason was or if they even provided one.

My recommendation for the best approach is, ... volunteer to be left standing, accept the job they force you to take, be a poor employee for the next two years and get two years of pay (instead of severance pay) for the smallest amount of work you will ever produce in your life. :)

Yes. But each BU is free to do whatever they want. Some will ask for volunteers. Some will not. Some will grant all requests and some may not. If you don't think it's fair because you ask to retire and were not granted it, tough beans. Don't expect to point to examples from other BUs as each is independent. A better approach, if offered a job, would be to point out that you volunteered for the package, have decided to move on, and would make a terrible employee if kept around.

I don't believe I asked you to grant it to me and def I can tell you are not in any position to be able to make those decisions. I can see why there was a need to let some low hanging fruit depart the organization has occurred.

Your request to be left standing is hereby denied. It is up to management to decide who should be ROM'd and left standing :)
