Thread regarding Sprint layoffs

Do yourself a favor and resign!

I was a part of the last group of the "Layoff Plan", and let me say that even with the severance pay plan, and unemployment option after, it is a hard, depressing feeling. In all my years of adulthood, I had never been without a job. I have always been able to find something else when ever I needed to, or it was time to move on. However, this time I was count completely off guard. I was doing very well at my position. I was working from home. I was even preparing to go for a promotion! Then suddenly, one Monday morning, I was called to the office for a conference, and was told the most insulting phrase a professional can hear. "We apreciate your service. You have been doing a fine job here at Sprint, but do to budgeting and lower service demands we are going to have to let you go. Your last day will be _____." I really didn't hear anything after that! When you are not prepared to move on, it can be a difficult adjustment. You have the burden of having to figure out what you want to do next, where to start looking, and what strategy is necessary to get into the next company. Contrary to what you may believe, it is very difficult to find a job once you don't one, you have good level of professional experience, and it's obvious you know your value. Plus, being laid off leaves a certain stink on you. I was being turn down by companies left and right because they thought I was just applying out of desperation, and not because I really wanted to be apart of their team. Bottom line don't let Sprint put you in this uncomfortable position. If you are worried that you will get hit, take my advice and start looking for something else right now.

There is life after Sprint - everyone just needs to start looking before the give you the boot because everyone will get the boot eventually - 32 years under my belt and I get the goodbye you are no longer needed. My buddy still calls asking me how to do things. Excuse me I no longer work for the company so what I know stays with me - not sharing. Be careful doing business with Sprint in the future as everything they are offshoaring includes private info ie ss #'s - BEWARE!
