Baker Hughes lays off 67 workers in Farmington

Baker Hughes Pressure Pumping on Southside River Road in Farmington laid off 67 workers on Tuesday citing low oil and gas prices on the commodities market. In the Nov. 10 letter, Brian Dockey, Baker Hughes' human resources official, said that the company's decision to permanently lay off workers was a reaction to slumping oil and gas prices on the commodities market. Dockey also said the layoffs were companywide. The layoffs included 39 field operators, one assembly maintenance overhaul technician, two field service coordinators, two field engineers, nine field specialists, one operations manager, seven mechanics, two tech support engineers, three "warehouse/blend operators" and one dispatcher.

The laid off workers will be paid for a "60-day notice period" and will receive medical benefits for three months following the layoff, according to the letter.

I used to work there left in '06. Kid was born in Farmington in '05. Always liked it there, Riverfest, fly fishing, Durango snow tubing. Really sorry for those guys. Hope they all find a good place to work. Considering the lack of support from corporate even back then, yard still managed to make plan somehow. Always did more with less there.

I told you guys this was going to happen. I made a note about a month ago that it felt as corporate office was almost doing it on purpose, as it was almost intentionally wanted the yard to fail as it provided the yard with no support as to helping bringing out of town hands when it was at its busiest or even order parts for equipment

No, everyone that got laid off receives 2-month base pays whether you're new or old hand. Medical benefits will last 3 months though. Your 401(k) company contribution will also immediately be vested. The layoff is companywide so other regions will also get the axe.

What does 60 day notice period mean? Will they get severance pay based on years of service also?
