Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

It might be your head in the basket

It's interesting and enlightening reading the blue badge woes on here. Some of the posters think crossing that gulf of the green to the blue line somehow affords them immunity from practical economic realities. Welcome to the real world! Those of us who were green badges were under the constant threat of termination with no notice, unemployment or severance package if we disn't perform up to par every day of our work life. We are just as skilled, just as educated, and yet we don't get bonuses and fewer still receive paid vacations and training. All of the blue badge perks have diminished and to hear this millenial whining is amusing, to say the least. Many of them are probably facing unemployment for the first time in their short careers. I've seen inflated blue badge egos crushed, former assholes are now trying their darndest to be friendly and get noticed so they stand out from the rest of the crowd but sill there are many arriving late, taking extended lunches, taking long walks and discussing holiday plans during working hours - effectively being unproductive and wasting company money during a critical time when they should be honing their skills and otherwise perfecting their talents. And they look upon the green badgea as the parasites! While I sympathize with the families of ALL of those laid off part of me is glad that EVERYONE is sharing the pain! Maybe that will give many of them greater empathy in the future, seeing the green badges they used to deride out-lasting them in a game of musical chairs because they actually perform and exceed expectations. Welcome to our world, the Real World, the Land of the Laid Off, blue and green badge alike, where everyone is equal!

We never made a distinction in badge color in my BU either but OP has a point. I have noticed certain previously confrontational and vocal employees become less so now the layoffs have begun.

The project I was on, never distinguished between green or blue. We treated everyone with respect, and many of us became close friends - regardless of badge color. Your post here is not accurate across an entire company, and frankly you sound pathetic and insecure about your badge color. You also should realize that many blue badges started out as green badges at some point. I actually earned more as a green badge, but decided to take a minor cut in pay in order to attempt some sort of job security. Little did I know, this wouldn't last very long. I'll never consider job security important, as no company can offer this.
