Chevron Expats: Private Schools and Expat Housing

How much do they cost us? On a per worker basis assuming a family of four with two elementary/high-school kids?

809, Actually the argument that expats are more productive than locals is not only fallacious and untrue, it is an inappropriate premise and it is insulting to all the individuals coming to work for a public corporation expecting equal opportunity and fair treatment.

Chevron could start by cleaning out the useless EEME Opco in London stuffed full of US expats in some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Unfortunately the Opcos are so powerful they escaped Project Alpha scrutiny altogether. Another example of non accountability !

The first thing Chevron should do to reduce costs is eliminate expats unless where absolutely necessary. The average expat costs twice the cost of a national. The argument that expats are more productive is ridiculous. No one can do as much work as two people. With the number of qualified people in the U.S. and many developed countries, is no reason to have any expats in these countries.

Car is given for transportation. Servants are the norm in these countries. Children cannot afford to go to local public schools and get their education ruined. We need good housing to live comfortably, so Chevron gives housing alloance We need to be relaxed so Chevron provides additional paid vacations. We live in difficult to work places with high cost of living and so Chevron provides additional allowances and premium. Chevron will be liable for everything if anything goes wrong. So Chevron is just covering its behind by giving us all this. Nothing more than that.

Not only for you, but for your spouse or kids. It's not enough money they earn that they can't afford a plan by themselves? What a big crash when they come back to US.

Having a cellphone means you are treated like royalty? What year are you still living in?

Americans in other countries have almost royal treatment, servants, cars, cellphone, private schools, luxury houses, extra bonus. They don't do anything different than a local can do except spending lots of money. Go home and start to clean your bathroom again.

Yes, I have heard the $1 million a year for all the costs, including language lessons, boarding school, driver, tax equalization, allowances, spouse annual stipend, airfare, etc.

I do agree that all expats in USA and around the world should be re-assessed and many should be sent home. I know many expats who have been on an expat assignment for 15+ years!!!!! Come on, it's time for these to get back to their home country and apply all that great knowledge and experience that they learned abroad. It's not about who works harder, locals or expats, it's about saving money where the expat is not needed.

Not much change from $1 million per annum when tax gross-ups on expat benefits are taken into account.

728, visa "exptirpation" date? Very apt term. That is what we. Need -- visa extirpation from these expats.

Check your visa extirpation date because that when you'll be heading home and I can start focusing on everything you screwed up for the last 3.5 years!

Yes Chevron will be very productive if it goes 100% expat. Give all the jobs in America to expats.

I am in CCR and wish all American expats in Canada should leave and leave something for us locals. They have insane benefits.

528, That is very rude. That shows the American character. That is why you need us.

We Americans will be the judge of who is more productive. There are expats who are good workers and there are others you are below par. Take that absurd statement of yours and stick it.

We expats are far more productive than the Americans. They just dont work hard like us. And we certainly deserve the benefits for traveling all the way from our countries and living in USA.

Good private school tuition in Houston can be anywhere between 15-25 K per year.

Good single family rental in Houston area between $ 2500-5000 per month.

It seems doesn't matter. Locals were out first everywhere. Unfair but true.

Varies by location. In general, private school can be roughly equivalent to college tuition. Housing costs are available on the intranet (housing allowance).
