Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Morale

I try so hard to keep positive but the morale is so very low that I actually hate having to walk in the building, love my job but damn somebody do something about morale! Our awesome new leader walks around nose in air just so cold, even when you say hello to her she wont return the favor she is horrible with people horrible! You can practically smell the sadness and despair when you pull in parking lot...Do something woman rally your troops! I miss Teri King :(

After the layoffs management accuses us of not working out flex Friday's. We have been warned by 3 levels of management to make sure we work our Friday. Really? If it's a real problem address the individual morale is bad enough.

Management will know more when the sale of the company is finalized and announced to the public.

Upper management is so full of themselves non stop town halls to hear them talk about themselves a complete waste of time. Think of the cost to hear them monthly talk about the state of affairs, non-productive and all they say is we don't know. When you know then have a town hall!

Yes ethics and hr were forced by upper management. The departure of the prior hr vp is a good indication of the hostility associated with upper management.

Who did you talk to in the Ethics Department, FFrDrRF-gxr ? Ethics may have its hand forced. HR works for the business-period...think about who signs its checks. Sad thing is they may not know what is stacked up against them. Don't underestimate a complaint brought to HR or Ethics. It may be your next settlement.

Everyone jumped for joy after the split when the company announced forced rankings were a thing of the past, but last year forced rankings reemerged when managers told to pony up names - duh!

Conocophillips is full of spineless management. They put undeserving, cry baby, pussies in charge. They all walk around like they are important. I'm still yet to see any of them take any incentive to boost morale. The only concern that they have is about number one and who's ass they can kiss next to move up. I can't wait until some of these ass holes have to go get a real job. One where you do more than Facebook and pretend to be important.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? You think I should start backstabbing? I dont' want to be ranked low... Any recommendations on how to effectively backstab? I could probably list that as a resume achievement too.

The upper management stated quite clearly stacked rankings would no longer be part of the performance ranking process. The upper management did in fact lie.

OMG, of course COP uses forced ranking to rate employees. You must be young and/or naive to believe otherwise.

Quit crying like babies. Keep your head down and do some work. Things will get better in 5 to 6 years. Then you will be in good shape for the next ten years

Managers and supervisors only tell lies but don't worry you will gone next and hopefully they let go of lots of people that the sups will have get let go.

The issue is forced ranking. The supervisors line up employees in advance. 10 employees and 9 of them are favorites so best to line up one employee in advance. Often the supervisors do in fact fabricate and HR and Ethics protect the company by protecting the supervisor. Employees despise forced rankings for this and endless other reasons. Google Microsoft & forced rankings for more detail on the issues with forced rankings and why companies are moving away from forced rankings.

you must have done something to piss him off then otherwise there is no reason to do so. If the company deems your job not important to survive through this economic climate, you are gone either way. Why would supervisors go out of their way to lay you off? You can't clap with one hand.

The company is rife with backstabbing. The last supervisor fabricated the contents of the poor review to line me up for the layoffs. The last supervisor noted other individuals in the contents of the poor review. The other individuals contacted HR and the Ethics out of concern for their own well being. HR and ethics told me point blank the supervisor would be protected by the company and HR and Ethics. In the end I was laid off and the supervisor was not laid off. Yes the company is rife with backstabbing.

None of that backstabbing shit happens. Calm down. Stop playing the victim and do some goddamn work. If you hate it so much, tell your boss about it, and then tell him to hire me! I could use a paycheque

I love it when people say: just be happy you have a job.

Why not say: be happy you have an ulser, diarrhea, migraines, your supposed friends steal work from you behind your back so they can stay afloat, and that 7 people are timing you from their cubes if you go the bathroom so that they can use it against you later! The constant minute by minute pressure of potentially being laid off at any moment.

HAPPY INDEED! !!!!!

HAPPY INDEED

In this environment your coworker will cut your throat in a heartbeat to save their own ass. Don't kid yourself. Managment also does not care if you go or anyone as long as it's not them. This economy sucks and is stressful.

Reality check....layoffs will continue until the price of oil and gas goes up. Fact. All companies loosing money will be looking at the staff they have on a quarterly basis. Soooo this means the stress will continue and the city will be grumpy until the economy turns around. COP is in rough shape, if you look at its history they have been doing layoffs for the past 5 yrs. they are a poorly run company and it shows.

I think its funny when people say : be happy you have a job.

Why not say : be happy you have an ulser, diarrhea, migraines, your supposed friends steal work from you behind your back so they can stay afloat, and that 7 people are all timing you from their cubes when you go to the bathroom so that they can see if you are taking longer than 15 mins and use it against you later! Lets not forget not 1 minutes peace of mind from the dreaded layoff talks and rumors.

Yes happy indeed

I felt the same way. Work was just a paycheck near the end, moral was so low. I was actually relieved to get laid off.
