That's only part of the story (being actively in the workforce). We feel things quite acutely right now in Houston (and other oil heavy location), but the oil industry is not the only one in the country (or in town).
Scratch the surface Texas has lost 10.5% in Mining/Logging and 4.7% in Manufacturing.
Yes, the numbers are good overall and at the high level, but those of us in oil and gas are really feeling some pain. We also enjoyed an extremely good and long party over the last ten years, while much of the country was not in very good shape.
Don't whine and cry.
Don't complain and point fingers.
Do what Texans and oilmen do best - pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and go find the next opportunity.
