Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Hey, Oracle: There's really no prize for worst layoff notification.

My husband has survived StorageTek to Sun to Oracle, 19yrs in same dept. Watched others hand over their badges & heard of final papers be delivered FedEx. (Chicken, to make others do their dirty work)

Lately, in addition to requiring use of own vacation week between Christmas & New Years, supervisor & next level up have been directing wrong & dangerous things to do, spent over $1M on an outdated system and have brought in freelance without P.O. Another brown-noser coworker gets away with stomping on computers & kicking file cabinets.

Middle of last week, jr. super came to cubicle of highest seniority, took his laptop, escorted him out & watched security change the door code.

Oracle already has a reputation for annual layoffs & needs to stop being such a drama queen about cutting their bloated payroll.

Please just go ahead & let my husband go asap, so he can work for a Decent company.

Yeah. They make everyone in the departments they want to scale down in miserable. Then a certain percentage leave on their own. then toot their horn that they ' let ' the good people go.

Pay offs can be reasonable however the management stinks, especially mid management who are just puppets with no power, influence or sole !

First, they use Fed Ex to deliver the papers, but the manager has a discussion with the employee being terminated the same day. So, no, they are not relying on Fed Ex. I've never seen Oracle not give a severance if they are the ones terminating, and the severance is a decent package. Other companies give you nothing. Remember, do not burn any bridges or make derisive comments about any ex-employer, it just makes you appear bitter and weak and will do nothing to champion an interview for a new position elsewhere.

I verify the above. Oracle sucks. Ellison a 1 percenter who neo-liberalizes work offshore. Time to elect new politicians to punish multi-nationals who are killing american middle class.

Good night and good luck.

Been there ... my advice is to gear up for a new job search now - update the resume and get it reviewed, get LinkedIn recommendations if that's your thing, reach out to contacts who aren't still with Oracle, practice applying for jobs online, and so on, then either make a move in the near future or hang out for the severance. Those who get laid off relatively early may collect the best packages. Good luck to your husband.

This is how Oracle does layoffs. Very slowly so they don't have to report anything massive. They also make life so miserable by cutting that they force attrition or voluntary terminations. Cheaper than paying a severance and look at all the money they save. In some cases Oracle is doing these people a favor by letting them get out before things get really bad. I actually feel sorry for those left behind and still inside of the big red machine.

If it was so bad then I'd figure you want him to leave... or perhaps just collect severance.
