Why not inform employees that layoffs are coming and what they can expect in severance?

I worked at Devon & they do not have class when it comes to "lay offs" aka realignments /restructuring. We had over 500 people "realigned" in 2015. Our health insurance was terminated immediately at midnight! Chk's was extended until the end of the month. Employees at Devon lived in fear for half of 2015. It's very counter-productive. The fact that Devon announced a lay-off is bad, very bad. No one is safe right now with prices so low. I wish all my O&G peeps the very best. Hopefully, you can find work somewhere in the mean time. Perhaps in 2017 we can pick up on the projects we left behind. 😉
Devon is not doing official WARN. You have to give 60 days. The contractors started to get the boot the next day (yesterday) and roughly a 100 were gone by end of day. Most of the rumors at DVN are that employee layoffs will start next week. The town hall statement was it would be "completed by end of quarter", not done at the end of quarter.
I was let go in September and I compliment chk for how it was done. DVN isn't the model Corp for how they handled announcing their layoffs nor SWN. They just did it different and created a different kind of STRESS! Bitch all you want but the last layoff at chk was handled with class. What DVN and SWN won't do is pay out the WARN notice period which chk did! Their announcement IS their WARN.
I work at DVN, I think that if you didn't know it was coming... you are stupid. This entire industry is taking a hit and all will be effected. Good luck to you over at CHK.
Devon has been having layoffs for almost a year. They just call it restructuring and do a few employees at a time but I guess it finally got to the point that they couldn't hide it any more.
We did that in 2013
They didn't give them an exact date!! Let me help you out CHK will be having layoffs too, there now we are all in the same boat just sitting around not knowing the exact day. They did them no favors they just told them what they should've already knew!
