Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The Opportunity to have a meaningful careers with a company

Now more than ever, employers can’t afford to believe workers don’t care about money and won’t quit in pursuit of it.

What’s more, whether compensation is a primary driver of voluntary turnover, a related factor, or a crucial concern is of less importance than the fact that it’s an inherent part of the mix.

The Opportunity to have a meaningful careers with a company at value employees, and good compensation packages, comes once in a life time,

One can say the same of the company. Chevron can play the role of benefactor while it can benefit from it. But once an opportunity presents itself in a downturn, it will look after its self-interests first (the shareholder) and toss out as many as it takes without a tear or a care.

What @ozr is saying is that basic human nature is self-gratification and selfishness. We look after our own self interests (or preservation) first. I agree 100%. We try hard to hide this side of ourselves from our friends and associates, but what's wrong with that. It happens in the jungle everyday. So, forget about loyalty. It's there while it benefits, but as soon as better opportunities presents itself, we will jump at it.

@FyKD22G-ozr is right. Many people took pay cuts to join CVX for more stability, just to find out the hard way, that the incompetent CVX management will screw up big, then turn around and fire them with no shame or remorse nor professionalism (that is on top of the 6+ months of suspense AKA project Alpha). Screw loyalty and screw benefits, people should get every penny owed to them with each pay check. The long term employment and the idea to retire with the same company is becoming more of a myth than a reality.

OP is saying that when the market turns around loyalty will be a think of the past and people will chase the dollar instead of a potential for a long career at one single company
