We just got acquired by IBM, do you think that IBM will be laying off back office folks, IT, Finance, etc. How does IBM typically handles things like this. Please let me know.

Yep. Everyone there is basically f---ed. That's why I bailed a couple of months after IBM acquired Truven.
Guess we know now. Most of those hired at the ramp up are now laid off, including the majority of the software developers.
Yes, you should assume that IBM will work aggressively to integrate back office systems and processes. Internally this is called "blue washing". That should be no surprise, all companies post an acquisition look for efficiencies and opportunities. Impact in terms of layoffs is a little harder to predict, depends on whether the skills that came over with your company are required to support the business going forward, and also possibly what kind of terms were negotiated as part of the acquisition. Sometimes there may be an agreement to retain all acquired company employees for a period of time. You should also look at this is a time of opportunity. There may be even greater opportunities for specific employees with particular skills in a large company like IBM. Find out what kind of skills are in demand and try to position yourself appropriately.
