Depending on a type of layoff - sometimes if you are laid off you can come back

  1. To some un-employment offices there isn't a difference. You can file and get paid unemployment.

  2. If you're laid off you don't have to/can't come back.

  3. A furlough is essentially a cut in your pay for that year.

  4. You may not even be able to choose your unpaid days off due to "business needs".
