Half this stuff isn't true...

I was a manager who had to pick people for the first layoff and now was let go this week. Denbury's the definition of class. I went through this process. They went out of their way to make sure we were fair when we picked people, that managers were not allowed to look at age and that more than one opinion was considered for every person. This week was awful but I was given a decent severance, months of paid insurance, a company they paid to help me with my resume & to find another job and today I spent time with them getting my questions answered, a personal reference and some of my personal files copied. Nobody does all that. They are great and and there aren't many better. They'll make it because of their people.

But they still have the Denbury Cafe!

Denbury has never done anything with class. It's a reflection of their management style and the people than run HR.

I think people who were let go might be sad now but its good in long term. You don't want to be in a company which might do a 3rd round or close the doors forever sooner or later.

Regarding the last post: It was "handled with class"? You have to be joking. You obviously don't work there and have seen how they treated the first few groups of people that got laid off. They wouldn't even let them go back to their desk, security had to go get their car keys and wallet. Then one person I heard had the shipping company dump all of his personal stuff on the sidewalk in front of his house, in the middle of the day 2 days laters, without even notifying him that his stuff had been dropped off. I saw them get walked out like criminals. The only reason Denbury is more sympathetic now is because they have nothing of value to steal. Its a penny stock.

I was reading the posts about Denbury layoffs. You are lucky it was handled with class. Devon came to you, gave you a little bit to clean out your desk and put in a box. Could not say bye to anyone and could not take your box. They will go thru the box to make sure you didn't steal anything and will mail your contents to you. Sad day.

I heard where their best people quit a year or two ago. They saw the writing on the wall. This used to be a good company before HR started growing and they hired outsiders to tell them what to do.

There is nobody left at Denbury with any CO2 reservoir management experience that was obtained outside of Denbury. CO2 is what moves the oil yet that was where expenses (volume) were cut to make themselves look good. Look at their utilization rate. They are lucky they get the CO2 for almost free. They would be broke having to pay what West Texas pays for CO2. Denbury never valued knowledge and experience. They got rid of them for political reasons or did now want to pay for the experience. You cannot just plug anybody in and expect same or better results.

I'm grateful for the time I had there, the people I worked with, the great boss I had, the leaders I worked for, the culture and benefits my family and I valued every single day and the wonderful living I made by being a part of Denbury. I hope you make it and I get to come back one day. Good luck to you!

So conveniently enough, upper management and the CEO's were coincidentally out of the office today. They left all the dirty work (layoffs) to the supervisors. Letting go the work horses of the company while they stuff as much money as possible in their pockets before we go under. I guess if I was one of them, I too would be ashamed to show my face today. Keep it classy Denbury!

We lost a lot of talent today. All ages, all races, all genders, different levels of experience and education. Nobody was safe. I was shocked to see some of the people who were on the list. Extremely disappointing and sad day. My heart breaks for our Denbury family. I was grateful that management handled the layoffs with class and allowed employees to say goodbye to their colleagues, rather than be walked out like criminals. It was nice to hug people and say goodbye and tell them how much their dedication and friendship means. Well done, Denbury.

Even the younger engineers were hit, not just the older experienced ones.

All the experienced good employees quit or were let go. CO2 flooding requires a certain skill set which is experience. Denbury is keeping the young employees who have no idea how to manage CO2 floods. All the supervisors and management have no clue either. How many of them were let go?

I am sorry for the ones that let go today but I do not know why this is a surprise to anyone...it was inevitable! The company cannot survive in this price environment. Period! I advise the remaining technical folks to start looking hard for jobs...good luck if you don't!

Prayers for those who are a victim of the oilfield crisis! It is a very sad day!

Not understanding why they let good educated employees go and keep recent hired, uneducated ones who were with a company prior that in good times was failing due to their input/work. They run before they get caught!

How many got laid off from HR this time? I bet we still have the largest HR department in the industry!

Heard 22% across the company - pretty much every department was affected, some a lot more than others.

Prayers for all of my Denbury family. It's been a good run. I hope that those who are left are able to weather the storm and come out strong on the other side. Denbury has been good to us. For those of you who don't make it, THANK YOU for your years of dedication and good luck to you. Today will be a dark and sad day for Denbury.
