Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Price matching sears.com

When all we do in the sears stores is price match sears.com, because everything is cheaper on line, it is no wonder that the stores make no profit. Customers come into the stores already knowing the price is less on line than what it is in our stores and expect a price match,so as a sales associate you have no choice, price match or lose the sale. Of course as a commission sales person, every little markdown takes as least .5% or more off your already lower commission rates. I wish someone can explain why there is such a difference between our prices in the stores and sears.com. , there is no reason for customers to come to the stores anymore .

Yes, "They" do want to go in the direction of online sales but kmart. com and sears. com sites are horrible. The sites are not user friendly and many times the information is incorrect for descriptions and pricing. I tried to support my company by buying online but I always double check the price of the item on Amazon. com. The prices are always much lower, delivery faster and their customer service is incredible.

I don't buy the logic that online has lower overhead, when customers come to the store to pick up their orders so store associates are still waiting on therm, plus when there is a problem with an online sale, the store ends up handling it. But you are right that sears .com is sears stores biggest competition. I always said a customer should get a better price for coming into the store than for ordering in line. But I guess corporate does not really care about the physical stores at this point . sad.

Also why is there always free delivery on sears.com,and sometimes lower pa and haul away prices? Is it any wonder why so many stores are closing and associate hours are being cut? It seems sears wants to be an online store because no money is being put into the sears stores anymore.

It's because online sales have lower overhead than in-store sales, so the customer is being penalized in a way, for buying in-store rather than online. Regardless, it's ridiculous to foist that over commissioned salespeople's heads as it simply puts the store against their site.

I think it's all by design, based on how SHLD has basically relegated their physical stores as good for nothing more than potential real estate sales (I'd like to see that happen, as brick and mortar retail is scaling back and the market is flooding).

What consumer is going to pay whatever price (and pay for delivery) when they can buy it cheaper online (and get free delivery)? They're trying hard to eliminate their physical presence, and if I'm wrong by some slim chance, they're doing a good job being inadvertent about it.

we are not allowed to price match Kmart online price in our stores. We have to tell them to order on line. Don't know how many sales we lost because of this at Christmas
