Store turnaround playbook

Has anyone else been given a store turnaround playbook? Does this mean my store will close. I'm hearing lots of rumors but everyone is on a different page about what it really means.

Stand up for your rights. CEOs should not profit over your job loss.

Most DMs are idiots. They either ran a store so long ago that it's a totally different job, or they are brand new to the company and don't have a clue. They try to bullshit and bully their way through.

The supply chain is a complete joke. As said - to many of one sku, that does not sell, and 0 of some other that people are asking for. They are firing / laying off all the WRONG people.

I can second that....Staples likes to belittle and humiliate those they want to get rid of.

Between verbal bashing by idiot RVPs that would not have their positions in any real company (Yes, I mean YOU Vinnie), to write ups and PIPS meant to harass and degrade you, they want you to feel like trash.

I had 20 years of retail management experience, won numerous sales contests and customer service awards. Never had a bad eval, there were opportunities pointed out, but as a whole they were markedly positive.

Then I made the "mistake" of reaching a certain age and making a certain wage. I was pretty much personae non grata overnight. The rest has been the theme of this board for years now - verbal harassment and glares from a wise guy wannabe and constant criticism for not being able to get everything done and achieve platinum Csats with no help on the floor.

I won't advocate stealing, because that just brings everyone down to Staples level. If you do find yourself in the situation where they make it obvious they no longer want you (or your whole store), stop playing their game. Don't put in 120%, work off the clock, etc etc, thinking it will make a difference.

They already decided your fate, they're waiting to pull the trigger until they get everything out of you and can make the kill as clean as possible.

This playbook is the sign telling the remaining associates to fill their pockets before they lose their jobs.

Take all you can from this company! I promise you'll regret it if you don't! Trust me, this company does NOT hesitate taking your livelihood and your dignity. They leave you feeling like you're a bad person and poor performer in business and life.

TAKE ALL YOU CAN WHILE YOU CAN!

I swear I typed demeaning, not "demoing".

You are the man Watching From Afar. I wish I had known you when we worked there (who knows, maybe we did). It would have been nice to throw down some bourbon's and swap war stories.

"Steve was fired by fat racist Otis 2 months later " I heard this was because he told Otis he can't talk to employees (not meaning himself) in such a demoing manner as he often did.

This is a PS: to the earlier post... I personally heard Steve L. tell a store they were renegotiating the lease to save 100k and all would be OK. Steve was fired by fat racist Otis 2 months later and the store closed 3 months later.

I have no experience with this particular Playbook. I'm also sure they have long since closed the loophole where you could "see" the Store Closing Playbooks if you knew where to look on the HUB. However experience guided by intellect tells me that the Title "Store Turnaround Playbook", if that is accurate, is a legal BllShT designed to help HR avoid some state imposed notification. Most states have laws that require 30 60 90 day notifications of closings. This looks like something they will claim was a "NOTIFICATION" so they can move quickly. Staples has also discovered most closings don't go well. They are losing their asswhen they announce a closing and months later due a closing inventory. YEAH, THEY ARE NOT ALL THAT SMART! hehehe the folks losing their jobs were not so careful protecting company asssets. However, once again, these are NOT smart people.

The GM has no write ups and is not on a PIP. Our inventory is this month and with everything going on that playbook just took us by surprise.

Was the GM already on a PIP or had write-ups?

We got one, closed us 3 months later. Don't bother asking your DM. Ours swore to us that Staples was committed to keeping us open, especially since the next nearest store is 90 minutes away. He kept up his assertion until the day he showed up, fired the GM and told us we were being closed.

Did you ask your DM?? They'd probably be the one implementing this policy and following up.

I heard something about this, or a similar initiative, back in 2011. It basically places the store under a microscope and is like a PIP for the whole store.

I do not know what exactly it entails, but I was warned back then that my store was "on the bubble" and unless a turn around was done the store would be under heavy micromanagement.

As far as closing, if they are calling it "store turnaround playbook" my guess is that they actually want to see improvement. Stores that are in fact slated for closure get a "store closing playbook".

Though the way Staples works lately this could all be a sham and your store is set up to fail. That way they can "justify" letting people go and closing the store with little or no severance.
