Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Anyone from Midland?

What can you tell me about the Midland/Odessa area? I will be moving there soon, and would like to get a little info on the place.

This is my first move with Chevron, and I am a little confused about how/if relocation assistance is handled. When I applied for the job, it was listed as relocation eligible, but when I accepted the position, it said no relocation for US employees. I was a rotator in SASBU, so I do not know if I will get assistance or if it will be all on me. Who wants to bet?

This blog is entitled "layoffs" for a reason - since you obviously have a job - GET OFF!!! Seems all the "really smart ones" were retained and that is likely by design as well.

Yes get out on the weekend. I recommend going to Rip Griffin's truck stop in Big Spring for the biscuits and gravy. Best in the state. That is a fun Saturday you can have with the family.

Midland is a great place to get away from every weekend. Odessa is a great place to never visit- it is a serious sh_t-hole.

No need for coffee any more. Once the smell of the shower hits you, you will be good all day long. I recommend drinking the tap water because you will never be bit by a mosquito ever again. Midland is boring but Odessa is a happening place or, as they say, you raise kids in Midland and raise he11 in Odessa.

dzo is right you won't find all the answers here but from experience it depends where you're based out of...I once relocated from Midland to Houston with assistance within same BU...I am a must move from Malongo as well luckily going back to the US with a job but I can tell you that this whole ESP was a big circus and unfair...a lot of good rotaros that I worked with were let go...there is a ton of expats in Luanda with better premium that should have been cut but they happened to be at the right place...anyways this is the first time I hear about this blog but I don't think is right for anyone that kept a job to post these things here...this looks more like a place to vent out we need to have some simpathy

Thanks for the great responses. And the rotator premium was 50%, so suck it.

If anyone should have been cut it should have been SASBU rotators. Chasing that 40% premium and then displacing someone else who's been making a fraction of that when things got bad.

You're going to love it. It's one of our all time favorite vacation spots. Don't miss Buck's Rusty Bucket for the best chicken fried steak in Texas. Maybe art and culture are your thing ; if so, don't miss Betsy's Busty Bunnies playing nightly at Jack's Snake Pit just out side of town. And, the coastal region, the mountains and desert are within driving distance. Good luck!
