Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Just another common current event.

I was demoted from my position, was offered to become a part-timer, and I said "no thank you." I handed back my keys to the store and walked out. I have given everything that can possibly do to my employer, sacrifice endless hours and my health to be a good employee. Time to move on.

Follett outright states it will not deny any claims for unemployment. That is because they set people up to fire them so they don't have to pay severance. Their reasons for firing are usually BS that don't hold up in a case. And then of course they hope you don't know and don't try and collect.

Take notice. You got to give the crappy news. THIS TIME. At some point, it will be you with the cross hairs on your forehead. There is a downward pressure on payroll. That's what all this pain is about. You'll find out one of two ways how much the company covets the money you earn more than the work that you do, and infinitely more than any loyalty you may feel. You'll be assigned tons of work you have no background in doing. You'll be given no direction and no attainable goals. You'll be publicly dressed down and humiliated. You'll be fired. OR, you'll quit and they'll be quick to classify your resignation as job abandonment. Either way, they don't want to pay you what they're paying you.

I should state I'm not trying to defend - but that's what all the documents I've seen have said. It's super sh--ty to have to be the ones handing down these "judgements". It's not our fault, not our choice. I don't know about many of you but my staff is like it's own little family. This hurt bad to have to do this to someone. They stayed, but it still sucks every day.

Follett outright states it will not deny any claims for unemployment. It's up to the state

File for unemployment. Depending on your state - you can get it. Research all the requirements. It can be done.

The pain you feel when you realize that management doesn't care if you stay or go hurts longer than the pay cut. Follett is a failed and abusive company. I hope people who are still there are paying attention. You haven't been targeted yet because they haven't gotten around to you yet. There were richer targets ahead of you. It will happen. That's why you have to look for work NOW. Then leave. Give two days notice. Hand you boss a transition plan. Then leave. They'd give you less notice. You owe them nothing.

I wouldn't comment on if was a smart move or not. I know that the company has put a large number of valued associates in a position that is so untenable that to keep working for a company that values each and every associate isn't possible. Hope the family is enjoying their dividend checks. I would be ashamed.

Sometimes you can't take no more and you break. Hopefully you all don't reach that point. It is not fun.

Your ability to collect unemployment will depend on your state. It doesn't cost you anything to apply. Unemployment is an insurance program run by the government. The premiums are paid by employers. If you're denied you'll likely have a chance to appeal. Follett will likely send a representative to that appeal. Have your facts straight and documented. The mediators are pretty fair.

Follett has been systematically targeting employees for more than 3 years. They're after salary. The economic recovery, even as weak as it is, has hurt Follett. Until the economy began adding jobs, they could claim they were over paying. Not so much any more. They're just mean.

To all Folletts and LItzingers, this business has passed you by. Staying open just to stay open is a poor strategy. You've hurt thousands of employees, so don't fool yourself by saying you're preserving jobs. Get out of the business now. The only ones left working for you are the timid and the unqualified. YOu can't win.

That really stinks, but now Follett will use it against you further . They will call it job abandonment. Won't look good on future job apps. and will not be able to collect unemployment benefits. I certainly understand job anger and frustration but a part time job is better than no job at all. Follett really know how to screw great employees! They will hire more incompetent new employees at bottom wages and wonder why sales are down. So much for FOLLETT VALUES. Wish you a great job in the future.
