Thread regarding NetApp (formerly Network Appliance Inc.) layoffs

I was dismissed in the Feb 2014 layoff after 15 years in PS. NetApp management experience is not very highly regarded in the marketplace.

In fact most knowledgeable hiring managers will question if you were somehow part of the well known problems that brought NetApp to the sad place it now exists. Since the introduction on Clustered ONTAP I had customers asking if they could just stay with 7-mode. Many (maybe most) of the customers do not need the features in Clustered ONTAP and the increased complexity is just not worth the effort. NetApp is forcing the customer to buy features they do not want and the migration is still long and costly. I wish everyone still there the best going forward. The good news is there are some excellent jobs out there, they just take a bit of time to find. The layoff was good for me. The severance package was excellent and it forced me to evaluate what was important to me and to change directions.

Why wait til tomorrow? Even if you get spared, is NetApp the place you want to be at now?

Recruiters are finding us more jobs than I know what to do with. Getting a severance package to interview full time seems like the best move now.

Unless you're on the Solidfire wagon, your job is likely toast.
